C&I Leasing Plc partners with Edo State Government for Comrade Taxi Scheme
Lagos, Nigeria; May 15, 2014 – C&I Leasing Plc. has partnered with the Edo state government to commission 300 brand new Suzuki Alto vehicles, for use in a new taxi scheme that is aptly named “Comrade taxi.”
The scheme is a new initiative of the state government at providing an efficient taxi service, as an alternative to commercial motor cycles, popularly referred to as “Okada,” that was banned last year. The Governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, while speaking at an unveiling ceremony that was held recently in Benin City, said that, the new taxis will provide relief to residents that might have faced difficulties as a result of the ban.
The 300, brand new Suzuki Altos, were supplied by C&I Motors limited, a subsidiary of C&I Leasing Plc. and sole distributor of Suzuki vehicles in Nigeria. Mr Emeka Ndu, the Group Managing Director of C&I Leasing, while speaking at the event mentioned that, the Suzuki Alto is a popular option for state taxi projects.
“The 300 Suzuki Altos that will be used for the scheme, are part of a family of Japanese manufactured vehicles that have been proven over time to be best suited for our environment. The vehicles are fuel efficient, quite easy to maintain and durable. Just early this year, it was awarded the largest-selling small car in the world, which goes on further to buttress the fact that it is a vehicle that will stand the test of times.”He said.
He further disclosed that, the Edo state government had provided a 15% subsidy on the price of each vehicle, and that C&I Leasing Plc. and Access bank, had partnered to provide a finance repayment plan for the beneficiaries of the scheme.
It will be recalled that C&I Leasing had in the past commissioned similar taxi schemes in other states of the country. The Managing Director of C&I Motors, Maureen Ogbonna, who was also present at the unveiling ceremony in Edo state, mentioned that they were happy to be a part of the Edo state taxi scheme. She reiterated their commitment to an efficient after sales service plan to ensure the success of the scheme. She went on further to invite other state governments to start the taxi scheme initiative as a means of youth empowerment and economic expansion in their states.
The unveiling ceremony which was held in the Edo state capital had the Commissioner of Transport, Honourable Orobosa Omo-Ojo and the Chairman of the Economic team, Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki present.
