C&I Leasing Plc sponsors 12 candididates to a ship building training in Romania

Lagos, Nigeria; November 6, 2015 – C&I Leasing Plc. is delighted to announce that it has awarded a training sponsorship to 12 cadets to the Damen international shipyard in Romania for six weeks to study different aspects of ship building. This gesture, as it was disclosed is part of a strategic plan to encourage national capacity development, particularly in the marine support service sectors.

The training is part of the company’s contribution to ensuring that the requisite skills necessary for achieving the dream of a wholly built Nigerian vessel is realisable in the near future. The trainees departed Nigeria on the 3rd of October 2015 and have already made significant progress since their departure – The cadets are expected back in the country by November 2015.

While speaking at at a brief pre-departure ceremony, the Technical Assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Mr. Jeff Tuatongha who represented the Executive Secretary, congratulated the candidates and encouraged them to be on their best behaviour as their post training progress will to a large extent be impacted by how well they perform in the course and applicable assessments during the training in Romania.

Mr. Tuatongha was full of praises for the management of C&I Leasing for the initiative, citing that the gesture was in line with the Human Capital Development mandate of the NCDMB, under the Nigerian, Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act. He concluded by reminding the trainees to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors throughout their stay.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Wisdom Nwagwu, the GM Petrotech Marine, on behalf of C&I Leasing explained that this initiative was in fulfilment of a commitment to develop local capacity at the bidding stage of a contract for the provision of four (4) security patrol boats with NLNG.

He further disclosed that the Damen Shipyard, is one of the largest shipyards in the world and advised the trainees to make the most of the opportunity that they have been given.
